Nanyange Doreen

Doreen grew up in a very humble household with her parents. Her father has spent years fetching water for households, using his bicycle as the main source of livelihood. He earns a small income, selling each jerrycan for just 500 UGX. Now aging, he can only manage a few trips a day, which has significantly reduced the family’s already limited income. Doreen’s mother works as a garbage collector, and together they have struggled to make ends meet. Due to these challenges, education has never been a guaranteed path for Doreen and her siblings. After completing Primary Seven in a public school, Doreen had to drop out, like many girls in similar situations.

She has now been out of school for two years. While she once dreamed of becoming a teacher, she has had to let go of that aspiration due to financial hardship. Still, Doreen remains determined to acquire practical skills that will enable her to earn a living and support her family. I give opportunity, she wishes to pursue a course in hairdressing, hoping it will open doors to a more stable and dignified future.
