La’Marc Foundation helps teenage mothers whose future has hit rock bottom – rebuild their hope & be groomed into responsible and productive members of society.
Transforming lives through Business Empowerment
Uganda now has the highest teen pregnancy rate in East Africa, at 25%. Child marriages and teen pregnancy jeopardise the country’s strategy for achieving goals under the National Development Plan’s Human Capital Development Programme. 80% of adolescent mothers dropped out of school, making it difficult for them to acquire jobs or establish their own income-generating activities. The situation is made worse by the fact that, majority of these teen mothers have been abandoned by the children’s responsible fathers, leaving them to face tough circumstances as they attempt to provide a secure environment for the newborns. La’ Marc Foundation strives to provide skills and business training with the goal of enabling teen mothers in starting businesses of their own.
The majority of teen mothers are offered one-year training programme in tailoring, baking, hairdressing, beauty, and barista, among other things. The girls are guided through numerous modules designed to help them create and sustain their own small businesses over the course of a year. We have frequently encouraged our sponsors to provide business start-up capital to the sponsored girls following the completion of their skills training.
